Key Qualifications:
- Valid teaching credentials specific to Visual Impairment or eligibility for credentialing
- Experience working as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired in a school setting preferred
- Strong understanding of Braille instruction, assistive technology tools, and accessible curriculum
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating with teachers, families, and support staff
- Compassion, patience, and the ability to tailor instruction according to individual education plans (IEPs)
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and consultation services for students with visual impairments across various educational environments
- Adapt curriculum materials using accessible formats, including Braille, large print, or audio resources
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and other educational professionals to provide accommodations and modifications
- Conduct assessments to determine student needs and develop individualized learning goals
- Advocate for students’ access to appropriate resources, support, and technology
- Maintain accurate documentation of progress and participate in IEP meetings
- Offer training and guidance to staff and families on strategies for supporting students with visual impairments
