Key Qualifications:

  • Valid teaching credentials specific to Visual Impairment or eligibility for credentialing
  • Experience working as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired in a school setting preferred
  • Strong understanding of Braille instruction, assistive technology tools, and accessible curriculum
  • Excellent communication skills for collaborating with teachers, families, and support staff
  • Compassion, patience, and the ability to tailor instruction according to individual education plans (IEPs)

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction and consultation services for students with visual impairments across various educational environments
  • Adapt curriculum materials using accessible formats, including Braille, large print, or audio resources
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and other educational professionals to provide accommodations and modifications
  • Conduct assessments to determine student needs and develop individualized learning goals
  • Advocate for students’ access to appropriate resources, support, and technology
  • Maintain accurate documentation of progress and participate in IEP meetings
  • Offer training and guidance to staff and families on strategies for supporting students with visual impairments
