Ideal candidates will possess:
- Certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired or eligibility for appropriate credentials
- Experience teaching students with visual impairments, particularly those who use braille
- Strong collaborative skills for working with general education staff, families, and related service providers
- Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Effective organizational and communication abilities
- Commitment to fostering independence and access to the curriculum
Key responsibilities include:
- Delivering direct instruction to students with visual impairments in both individual and small group settings
- Creating accessible learning materials, including large print and braille resources
- Assessing student needs and progress, integrating assistive technologies as appropriate
- Consulting with general education teachers to support classroom modifications and inclusion
- Participating in IEP meetings and completing necessary documentation
- Providing support and guidance to families, helping them understand available resources and strategies
