In this full-time, contract position, you’ll travel to multiple school sites to ensure visually impaired students receive the specialized instruction, materials, and support they need to thrive. What You'll Do:
- Deliver direct instructional services to students with visual impairments across a range of campuses (K-12 caseload, assignments TBD).
- Assess student needs and interpret those needs for fellow educators and relevant staff.
- Coordinate closely with general education teachers to adapt and prepare materials in accessible formats.
- Acquire and manage specialized textbooks, assistive technology, and adaptive resources.
- Provide in-service training to staff, sharing strategies and fostering an inclusive environment for visually impaired students.
- Maintain proactive, ongoing communication with families, educational teams, and the Louisiana Department of Education.
- Offer Braille instruction and support orientation and mobility training where appropriate.
- Perform duties as assigned by special education leadership while ensuring compliance with district and state requirements.
What You'll Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree with active Louisiana Department of Education teacher certification in visual impairment.
- At least three years of experience in elementary, secondary, and/or special education.
- Mastery of assistive technologies for the visually impaired; skill in Braille instruction.
- Strong communication skills, both within classrooms and in multidisciplinary teams.
- Analytical mindset with proven ability to use data for decision-making.
- Self-motivated, independent work style with excellent organizational skills.
- Physical ability to travel between schools and transport light educational materials.
