Desired Qualifications:
- Valid credential or certification to teach students with visual impairments.
- Experience working with children or adolescents in an educational environment.
- Familiarity with Braille instruction, assistive technology, and accessible curriculum materials.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills; ability to partner with classroom teachers, therapists, and families.
- Organizational skills and adaptability to meet diverse student needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct and consultative services to students with visual impairments, aligning instruction with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
- Assess students’ functional vision and learning needs; create and implement instructional strategies for academic and functional success.
- Teach Braille, use of assistive technology, orientation and mobility basics, and activities for independent living.
- Collaborate with general education staff to adapt classroom materials and learning environments for accessibility.
- Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to the development of student goals.
- Serve as a resource to families and educational teams, offering training and support as needed.
