Key Qualifications:
- Valid teaching certification or licensure for Visually Impaired Education
- Experience working with students who have visual impairments, preferably in a school setting
- Strong knowledge of accommodations, assistive technology, and braille instruction
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to adapt curriculum and develop accessible lesson materials
- Commitment to empowering students to achieve academic and life skills goals
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assess students’ unique visual and educational needs through formal and informal assessments
- Create and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) in collaboration with school staff and families
- Deliver direct instruction, including braille, assistive technology, and orientation and mobility skills as appropriate
- Support classroom teachers with training and resources for inclusion and accessibility
- Monitor student progress, maintain records, and participate in IEP meetings and team consultations
- Advocate for students’ access to the curriculum and school environment
