In this contract position, you’ll be instrumental in designing and adapting curriculum and instructional materials for learners who are visually impaired, fostering independence, and promoting equal access to education.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Valid teaching certification in Visual Impairment or Blind Education
- Previous experience teaching students with visual impairments (K-12 preferred)
- Strong communication skills for collaboration with general education staff, support teams, and families
- Ability to create and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Experience in orientation and mobility instruction is a plus
- Proficiency in Braille and assistive technology relevant to visual impairments
- Flexibility, resourcefulness, and passion for fostering an inclusive learning environment
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess students’ functional vision and learning needs
- Consult and collaborate with classroom teachers to adapt instructional materials and strategies
- Develop and monitor student IEP goals related to visual impairment
- Provide direct and consultative services to students, ensuring access to the general education curriculum
- Train students in the use of Braille, adaptive devices, and accessible technology
- Communicate regularly with parents, staff, and outside agencies as appropriate
- Maintain accurate records and progress documentation
