Qualifications and Preferred Experience:
- Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired or demonstrated experience in the field
- Strong familiarity with Braille and braille teaching tools; Brailler candidates should have proven transcription skills
- Previous experience working with students who are blind or visually impaired, especially in educational settings
- Ability to create individualized learning plans and adapt curriculum materials
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach with classroom teachers and support staff
- Commitment to fostering independence and promoting inclusion for all students
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction in all areas of the expanded core curriculum to students with visual impairments
- Assess students’ strengths, needs, and learning styles to inform adapted teaching strategies
- Develop and transcribe accessible materials using Braille and tactile graphics as needed
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure students receive comprehensive support
- Offer guidance and consultation to staff and families on best practices for visually impaired learners
- Monitor and document student progress, adjusting interventions as needed
