Empower students with visual impairments to succeed academically and beyond through this dynamic, hands-on role serving K-12 learners. This full-time contract opportunity offers a blend of on-site and virtual work supporting students across an itinerant schedule.
As a Teacher for the Visually Impaired, you’ll deliver both direct and indirect services to a diverse caseload of approximately 15–20 students, district-wide. With the district main office as your home base, you’ll travel between schools (roughly 2–3 per day, covering 13 schools total) and leverage a flexible, customized schedule designed to meet both student needs and your commute preferences. Hybrid scheduling is available, allowing direct student interaction several days a week and the option to provide virtual consultative services on others.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid Professional Florida TVI License
- Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) Certification required
- Background and experience in student screenings and educational testing
- School-based experience strongly preferred
- Experience working with K–12 students providing both direct instruction and consultative services
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide specialized instruction and support for visually impaired students, adapting curriculum materials and technology
- Screen students for eligibility and ongoing needs, utilizing your expertise in educational assessment
- Collaborate with educators, families, and service providers to establish individualized learning plans
- Offer training and resources to school staff and families as needed
- Navigate a multi-school (itinerant) schedule, ensuring all assigned students receive the necessary support
