Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid teaching certification in Visual Impairments or eligibility to obtain
- Demonstrated experience working with children or adolescents who are visually impaired
- Strong knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive instructional methods
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with colleagues, students, and families
- Ability to conduct functional vision assessments and develop individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Organizational skills to manage caseloads, document progress, and maintain compliance with all regulations
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction in Braille, orientation and mobility, and the use of assistive technology for students with visual impairments
- Develop and implement IEP goals tailored to each student’s abilities and needs
- Adapt curriculum materials and instructional techniques to ensure access and success in the classroom
- Serve as a resource and advocate for students, families, and staff on best practices in visual impairment education
- Collaborate with general and special education staff to support inclusive classroom environments
- Monitor and document student progress, adjusting instruction as necessary to promote achievement
