Qualifications and Skills:
- Valid state certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Experience working with students with visual impairments, ideally in a K-12 setting
- Familiarity with assistive technology and adaptive materials for visually impaired students
- Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with staff, families, and outside agencies
- Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Compassionate, patient, and dedicated to inclusivity and student growth
Responsibilities:
- Assess students’ needs and develop customized learning strategies and accommodations
- Provide direct instruction in Braille, orientation and mobility, assistive technology, and daily living skills as needed
- Collaborate with general and special education teachers to modify curricula and materials
- Monitor student progress and update IEPs in conjunction with multidisciplinary teams
- Advocate for accessibility and inclusion in classroom settings and throughout the school community
- Support families by offering guidance, resources, and regular updates on student progress
