Desired Skills and Experience:
- Valid teaching certification with an endorsement in Visual Impairment or comparable credential
- Previous classroom experience, preferably within K-12 environments
- Proficiency in Braille, assistive technology, and accessible instructional strategies
- Strong organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to collaborate effectively with general education teachers, administrators, and families
- Compassion, patience, and adaptability in supporting students’ individual needs
- Willingness to participate in assessment and development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
Role Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction, modifications, and consultation for students with visual impairments
- Conduct assessments to determine students’ functional vision and learning media needs
- Adapt curriculum, create accessible classroom materials, and implement specialized devices or technology
- Communicate regularly with school staff, parents, and related service providers to ensure optimal learning outcomes
- Monitor student progress, maintain meticulous records, and participate actively in IEP meetings
- Promote independent skills, mobility training, and self-advocacy for each student as appropriate
- Stay current with best practices and developments in the field of visual impairment education
