Key Qualifications:
- Credentialed as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Experience working with K-12 students with varying visual impairments
- Solid understanding of Braille, assistive technology, and accessible educational materials
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to partner with multi-disciplinary teams
- Ability to develop customized learning strategies and adapt curriculum materials
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and support to students with visual impairments, both individually and in group settings
- Adapt curriculum content and instructional methods to meet students’ needs
- Conduct assessments to determine students’ functional vision and learning needs
- Monitor progress, maintain accurate records, and participate in the development of IEPs
- Consult regularly with classroom teachers, administrators, and family members to recommend appropriate accommodations and modifications
- Promote self-advocacy, independence, and orientation and mobility skills in students
- Stay current with best practices and emerging technologies in vision education
