In this contract role based near Houston, TX, you will collaborate closely with school staff to deliver specialized instruction and resources, empowering students with visual impairments to succeed academically and personally.
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education or a related field
- Valid teaching certification with a specialization in Visual Impairment
- Experience working with students who are blind or have low vision
- Strong knowledge of Braille, assistive technologies, and adaptive strategies
- Effective communication and organizational skills
- Comfortable working as part of a multidisciplinary team
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess students to determine their individual needs and develop appropriate learning plans
- Provide direct instruction in Braille, orientation/mobility, and use of assistive technology
- Adapt curriculum and materials to ensure accessibility for visually impaired students
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and other professionals to support inclusion efforts
- Communicate regularly with families about students’ progress and resources
- Participate in IEP meetings, contributing expertise and advocacy for students’ needs
- Maintain documentation in accordance with school and district policies
