Teacher of Visually Impaired in Aurora, CO
Inspire and empower students across a district-based setting as a dedicated educator for the visually impaired. In this full-time, onsite position, you’ll serve students from early childhood through high school, providing impactful instruction and support for diverse learners. You’ll collaborate with educators, families, and support teams to create innovative learning experiences while fostering independence and confidence in each student you serve.
What We’re Looking For:
- Current Colorado Department of Education certification with “Special Education Specialist – Visual Impairment (ages 0-21)” endorsement
- Master’s (or higher) degree from a regionally accredited institution in special education visual impairment or equivalent
- Previous experience working with visually impaired students in educational settings strongly preferred
- Preference given to candidates who also hold O&M (Orientation & Mobility) Certification, though not required
- Commitment to completing the full school year—from July 31, 2026, through May 26, 2027
- Ability to complete required background check and fingerprinting
Role Highlights:
- Administer and interpret functional vision assessments and Expanded Core Curriculum evaluations
- Develop and implement tailored Individualized Education Programs for students from birth to age 21
- Provide specialized instruction and orientation/mobility training within school and community settings
- Adapt materials and environments to maximize accessibility for all students
- Support students with additional disabilities through thoughtful instructional interventions
- Communicate progress and collaborate with families and school teams to optimize student outcomes
- Maintain all required documentation and participate in district compliance processes
This is a contract opportunity, working 35 hours a week, Monday through Friday, covering a range of grade levels and schools within the district.
