As a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) and/or Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS), you’ll collaborate with supportive colleagues and help tailor learning experiences that ensure every student experiences success.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Valid Colorado teaching license required
- Certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) and/or Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS)
- Previous experience supporting students with visual impairments in a school environment is preferred
- Strong ability to adapt curriculum and instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs
- Excellent interpersonal skills for working with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams
Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instructional support to students with visual impairments, adapting general and specialized curricula to meet individualized needs
- Conduct assessments to determine students’ levels of functional vision and learning requirements
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals for assigned students in collaboration with families and school staff
- Provide orientation and mobility training, teaching students navigation skills in various school and community environments
- Offer consultation and training to teachers and staff to foster an accessible learning environment
- Maintain thorough documentation of services, progress, and student outcomes
