Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Valid teaching certification in Visual Impairment (TVI) or eligibility for certification in Texas
- Experience working with students who are blind or have low vision in educational environments
- Proficiency in developing, adapting, and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Strong knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, and strategies tailored to meet varied visual needs
- Excellent communication abilities for collaborating with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams
- Commitment to promoting independence, confidence, and self-advocacy in students
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction in Braille, use of assistive devices, and orientation & mobility techniques as appropriate for students’ needs
- Collaborate closely with classroom teachers to support curriculum adaptation and inclusion of visually impaired students
- Conduct assessments to determine students’ functional vision, learning media, and necessary classroom accommodations
- Participate actively in IEP meetings and maintain accurate progress documentation
- Serve as a knowledgeable resource for staff and families regarding best practices in visual impairment education
