TVI - Fort Pierce, Florida
Make a meaningful impact in the lives of students as a dedicated teacher for the visually impaired. This full-time contract opportunity offers the chance to support students across five schools, ensuring each receives the specialized instruction and care they deserve. In this rewarding role, you will work closely with a caseload of 12 direct students and manage two consults, delivering a total of 690 service minutes per week. This position requires teaching Braille and adapting curriculum materials to facilitate access for all learners.
Your presence on-site is essential for collaboration with staff, students, and families, providing hands-on support that drives real progress. The assignment runs from early October through June 1, offering stability throughout the academic year, with 35 hours per week.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid FL DOE Teacher for Visually Impaired certification required
- Previous experience teaching Braille to students with visual impairments strongly preferred
- Ability to develop and adapt instructional materials for visually impaired students
- Experience consulting with teachers and staff to support student success
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Must meet time-sensitive district fingerprinting requirements (prints may be transferable from AHCA Clearinghouse, if applicable)
- Flexibility to travel within the district, supporting multiple campuses
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments across a range of age groups and educational needs
- Develop, adapt, and implement individualized educational plans (IEPs)
- Teach Braille and specialized techniques for accessible learning
- Serve as a consultant to general educators and other school staff
- Maintain progress documentation and regular communication with families
