This full-time, contract role is ideal for experienced Teachers for the Visually Impaired (TVIs) with a strong commitment to student achievement and the flexibility to serve multiple locations in the New Orleans area.
Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and certification in teaching students with visual impairments (required)
- Valid Louisiana DOE certificate (required)
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in elementary, secondary, and/or special education
- Adept in Braille instruction and assistive technology designed for the visually impaired
- Strong communicator with a proven record of inspiring and engaging a variety of audiences
- Analytical problem-solver capable of leveraging data to make impactful recommendations
- Professionalism and organizational skills for multitasking across several sites
- Preferably knowledgeable in orientation and mobility training
- Must provide own reliable transportation and meet physical requirements including occasional lifting (up to 10 lbs), standing, walking, and operating office equipment
- Successful completion of drug screening and fingerprinting required
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct services to visually impaired students and facilitate student needs across various sites
- Obtain and prepare specialized materials, including Braille and large-print, for optimal student access
- Regularly collaborate with general education teachers and school staff
- Provide ongoing in-service training for school personnel supporting visually impaired students
- Maintain productive communication with the Louisiana Department of Education
- Uphold documentation, reporting, and any duties as assigned by the Director of IDEA
