Key Responsibilities:
- Travel daily to various school sites to deliver high-quality services to visually impaired students.
- Collaborate closely with general education teachers to prepare and adapt reading materials in accessible formats, ensuring equal access for every student.
- Provide in-service training for school personnel to increase understanding and support for visually impaired students.
- Secure and manage specialized textbooks and materials suitable for students’ unique learning needs.
- Deliver direct instruction, including Braille and assistive technology, and offer guidance on orientation and mobility where applicable.
- Maintain strong, communicative relationships with the Louisiana Department of Education.
- Consistently document and communicate student progress, addressing other duties as assigned by leadership.
- Ensure compliance with all credentialing and district requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and valid Louisiana DOE certification, along with a specialized certification for teaching the visually impaired.
- At least 3 years of experience in elementary, secondary, or special education settings.
- Proficiency in Braille and assistive technology designed for students with visual impairments.
- Outstanding communicator who inspires, motivates, and builds a positive school culture.
- Analytical, adaptable, and able to manage competing priorities effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to foster professional relationships and lead school-based training.
