Step into a highly impactful educational role supporting visually impaired students across multiple locations in the New Orleans area. You’ll collaborate with educators and support staff, providing essential resources and instruction that elevate students’ academic experiences.
Key Responsibilities:
- Travel daily to various sites within the area to deliver services to visually impaired students
- Assess and interpret the unique needs of students, ensuring the provision of appropriate supports
- Offer in-service training for school personnel to foster inclusive environments
- Source, adapt, and provide specialized textbooks and materials for visually impaired learners
- Maintain ongoing communication with classroom teachers and state education personnel
- Deliver direct Braille and assistive technology instruction to students and staff
- Engage regularly with the state Department of Education and district leadership
- Fulfill additional duties as assigned by the Director of IDEA
What We’re Looking For:
- Bachelor’s degree and current Louisiana DOE certification, plus visually impaired certification
- At least three years’ experience in elementary, secondary, or special education
- In-depth expertise with assistive technologies for visually impaired students
- Ability to instruct in Braille and provide guidance on orientation and mobility (preferred)
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Professionalism, adaptability, and disciplined organizational abilities
- Comfortable working itinerantly, with reliable transportation and mobility between sites
This role involves a 35-hour work week with flexibility to meet the changing needs of students and campuses. Physical requirements include sitting, standing, and occasional lifting up to 10 pounds.
