This contract opportunity, located in the vibrant New Orleans area, involves working across multiple schools on an itinerant basis during the 2026-2027 school year, with a start date of August 3, 2026. You’ll work 35 hours weekly, collaborating closely with educators, school staff, and the Louisiana Department of Education to ensure students with visual impairments receive tailored support and resources.
What You'll Do:
- Travel between school sites daily to provide direct instruction and services to visually impaired students across a range of grades.
- Facilitate and interpret the needs of visually impaired students, ensuring access to special textbooks and adaptive materials.
- Deliver in-service training to school personnel to build awareness and understanding of best practices in supporting visually impaired learners.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to prepare reading materials in accessible formats.
- Offer support in Braille instruction and integrate assistive technology into the classroom.
- Maintain open lines of communication with stakeholders, including the Director of IDEA and the Department of Education.
- Complete all necessary documentation and other duties as assigned.
Desired Skills & Background:
- Bachelor’s degree and certification in Visual Impairment (required).
- Valid Louisiana Department of Education certificate.
- Minimum of three years’ experience in elementary, secondary, or special education environments.
- Proficiency with assistive technology and Braille instruction.
- Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Flexibility, professionalism, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Able to provide transportation to school sites and meetings.
- Willingness to complete district and agency credentialing requirements, including drug screening and fingerprinting.
