Bring your expertise in supporting students with visual impairments and make a direct impact across multiple campuses in a contract opportunity located near Mesquite, TX. This full-time, on-site position offers the chance to work with a diverse caseload of 12–15 students, ranging from elementary to high school, including a group of homebound students. As an itinerant Teacher of the Visually Impaired, you’ll collaborate with educators, families, and support staff across roughly six schools to provide essential services and advocacy for students’ educational needs.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Active Texas State Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (TSVI) license required
- Experience working with school-aged children with varying degrees of visual impairment
- Ability to adapt instructional materials and strategies to meet individualized education program (IEP) goals
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to partner with multidisciplinary teams and families
- Organized and flexible—comfortable balancing a fluid caseload and traveling between campuses
- Dedication to promoting inclusion and accessibility within general and special education settings
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct and consultative instructional services for students with visual impairments, including those who are homebound
- Assess students’ needs, develop IEP goals, and monitor progress across several campuses
- Modify classroom materials and collaborate with teachers to ensure accessibility
- Train and support staff regarding accommodations and assistive technology
- Serve as a resource to school personnel and families regarding visual impairment
- Maintain accurate records and participate in IEP meetings
