Teacher for the Visually Impaired | Middle River, Maryland
Take the next step in your career as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired by supporting students in the Baltimore area. This contract role runs from August 31, 2026 through June 17, 2027 and offers the opportunity to collaborate within a dedicated team of vision educators. This is a full-time or part-time position (full days preferred) with 37.5 hours per week, providing support across a close cluster of schools. IEP meetings are attended virtually while remaining onsite, minimizing travel away from your students.
In this role, vision services are delivered to school-age students as outlined in their IEPs. Assignments are based on your expertise—candidates with strong Braille skills may be placed at fewer, specialized schools, while those less focused on Braille will provide support across a broader group.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid teaching certificate with a Vision endorsement from the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE)
- Experience as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired with proficiency serving diverse age groups
- Strong understanding of IEP development and execution
- Ability to travel between multiple assigned schools within the region
- Comfortable attending IEP meetings virtually while on district premises
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Completion of district background check, fingerprinting, and compliance with employment history review (House Bill 486)
- Willingness to provide documentation and participate in prescreen interviews
Responsibilities:
- Deliver vision-specific instruction and adaptations in alignment with student IEPs
- Assess visual needs, write evaluative reports, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
- Support students' independence and integration into the school community
- Attend virtual IEP meetings as scheduled throughout the workday
