Provide transformative support to K-12 students as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired on a contract basis. This meaningful opportunity centers on working with a small student caseload in a school-based setting, helping learners gain essential skills and confidence. With an anticipated schedule of 15-20 hours per week from August 11 through May 20, you’ll deliver tailored services and see the direct impact of your expertise.

Key qualifications and experience:

  • Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
  • Experience working with students who are blind or have low vision
  • Familiarity with individualized education plans (IEPs) and adapting materials for accessibility
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Comfort serving multiple grade levels (K-12) in educational environments
  • An innovative, patient, and resourceful approach to teaching

Primary responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction in Braille, assistive technology, orientation and mobility, and daily living skills
  • Develop, implement, and monitor IEP goals centered on visual impairment needs
  • Adapt curriculum materials and classroom environments for accessibility
  • Offer consultative support to classroom teachers and staff regarding best practices and accommodations
  • Maintain detailed records of student progress and collaborate on reports for IEP meetings
  • Engage families and caregivers to reinforce skills and encourage advocacy
