Teacher of Visually Impaired - Tavares, FL
Make a meaningful difference supporting students across multiple schools as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) with an Orientation and Mobility (OMS) Certification. This contract position runs from August 3, 2026 through May 28, 2027, providing full-time hours (35 per week, 7.5-hour days) for K-12 students in a dynamic, supportive setting. Based out of the district main office, you’ll travel to an assigned group of up to 13 schools in the area—averaging 2 or 3 campuses per day—with a customized schedule designed to reduce commute stress.
The hybrid structure allows flexibility: work on-site for direct services several days a week, with the remaining days available for remote (virtual) consultation and indirect support. Caseloads are manageable, typically 15–20 students, and include both direct and consultative interactions—some may be as infrequent as once a month. Testing and screening for student needs will be a critical aspect, so a background in educational testing is important.
Qualifications:
- Active Florida Professional Teacher of the Visually Impaired license
- Valid Orientation & Mobility Specialist certification (OMS)
- Experience in school-based settings highly preferred
- Background and confidence in student assessment/testing
- Willingness to work across multiple campuses and adapt to a flexible, collaboratively-created weekly schedule
- Strong communication skills for both in-person and digital consultations
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct and indirect services for visually impaired K-12 students
- Travel between assigned campuses to deliver support
- Collaborate with staff, families, and other professionals
- Conduct screenings and assessments as necessary
- Maintain accurate documentation per district requirements
