Make a meaningful impact supporting students with visual impairments in a vibrant K-12 setting for the 2026-2027 academic year. This full-time contract role (with flexibility for exceptional part-time applicants) seeks two committed professionals ready to champion student independence and achievement. Caseloads are thoughtfully assigned—split between elementary, middle, and high schools—to promote sustained relationships and effective support. While these positions are itinerant, strategic school assignments keep travel time to a minimum, ensuring that your focus remains on teaching and collaboration.
You will work within a highly supported environment that values teamwork and instructional excellence. Your expertise in Braille, the use of assistive technology, and contemporary best practices will empower students across a range of abilities—from those in general education to those in specialized classrooms with additional needs. The district utilizes the TN Pulse platform to streamline IEP management, and your active role in IEP development and meetings will shape student outcomes.
Qualifications:
- Current and active DOE certification
- Minimum five years’ experience as a Virtual Teacher of the Visually Impaired required for virtual arrangements
- Proficient with Braille and a variety of assistive technologies
- Familiarity with the Federal Quota program for accessing assistive technology (preferred)
- Ability to travel between assigned schools within a set geographic region
- Dedicated to collaborative IEP planning and execution
- Fingerprint clearance as required
Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction and provide consultation for K-12+ students with visual impairments
- Facilitate student access to curriculum and technology, including Chromebooks
- Develop, monitor, and participate in IEP meetings for assigned students
- Travel between multiple school sites, with a focus on efficiency
