Make a meaningful difference supporting students with visual impairments as a full-time Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI). This contract opportunity offers the chance to positively impact learners across a diverse caseload in the K-12+ age range. The position involves itinerant work, with your assigned schools thoughtfully clustered to minimize travel.
The school year is underway and these positions have been vacant, making your expertise urgently needed to provide specialized instruction and guidance. You will collaborate closely with both general and special education teams, taking part in IEP meetings for your students and utilizing the TN Pulse platform for documentation. You'll support learners who primarily use Chromebooks, requiring strong familiarity with Braille instruction and assistive technology—particularly tools accessed through the Federal Quota program.
What We’re Looking For:
- Active DOE teaching certification (TVI emphasis)
- Proficient in Braille and experienced with various assistive technologies
- Able to work effectively with both general education and multiple-disabilities classrooms
- Capacity to travel between multiple (geographically assigned) schools
- Experience with IEP processes, including writing and participating in meetings
- Comfortable using Chromebooks as student devices
- Knowledge of Federal Quota assistive technology distribution, a plus
- Flexibility to adapt to a caseload and schedule that may evolve
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction and support to K-12+ students who are visually impaired in both inclusive and specialized settings
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Consult with classroom teachers and staff on accommodations and accessible materials
- Travel between assigned schools as needed
