Empower K-12 students across the Chattanooga area by sharing your expertise as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired. In this full-time contract position (35 hours a week, with potential for part-time), you'll make a meaningful difference by supporting students from elementary through high school. You’ll be part of an adaptive, collaborative environment working directly with students, staff, and families to facilitate positive educational outcomes.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing direct services and consultation for K-12+ students with visual impairments, both in general education and specialized classroom environments.
- Developing and implementing individualized educational plans (IEPs), participating in meetings, and tracking student progress using the TN Pulse platform.
- Traveling between assigned schools within a thoughtfully planned, geographically efficient area to maximize your effectiveness and minimize drive time.
- Teaching and adapting the curriculum using Braille and Assistive Technology to promote student independence, including utilizing the Federal Quota program when possible.
- Supporting students who use Chromebooks and diverse learning tools.
- Collaborating closely with school teams, service providers, and families to ensure students’ accessibility and inclusion across academic and social settings.
Ideal candidates will bring:
- Valid and active DOE certification in Visual Impairment.
- Proficiency in Braille instruction and Assistive Technology.
- Knowledge of IEP process and experience contributing to multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to work with students across elementary, middle, and high school ages.
- Flexibility to travel to multiple school sites within a single district, with caseload and schedule support provided.
- Commitment to timely credentialing, including completion of fingerprinting requirements.
