Teacher for the Visually Impaired | Hixson, Tennessee
Make a meaningful impact as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired, working with students across K-12+ grade levels for the 2026-2027 school year. This contract position offers a full-time schedule of 35 hours per week—though flexibility may be considered for part-time candidates. You'll provide vital support to students at multiple schools within a thoughtfully assigned geographic area, ensuring efficient travel between locations.
Responsibilities include delivering specialized instruction to both general education students and those with multiple disabilities. You'll leverage your expertise in Braille and assistive technology, with an added advantage if you're familiar with accessing technology via the Federal Quota program. Engaged in IEP meetings, you’ll collaborate with special education teams and utilize the TN Pulse platform for all documentation. All instruction supports are delivered in person within the school setting—there is no virtual or hybrid component.
Your assigned caseload will be divided across elementary, middle, and high school campuses, working directly with students and educators to promote accessibility and independence. You’ll be essential in shaping student success through tailored strategies and ongoing support.
Qualifications:
- Valid DOE teaching certificate
- Familiarity with K-12 caseloads and itinerant teaching
- Skilled in Braille and use of assistive technology
- Experience with Chromebooks in educational settings
- Preferred knowledge of the Federal Quota program
- Proficiency in IEP documentation (TN Pulse platform)
- Completion of fingerprinting for credentialing
