Embark on a rewarding contract opportunity supporting students as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired. In this dynamic role, you'll work throughout the Chattanooga area providing specialized instruction and guidance to K-12+ students with visual impairments. The position is full-time at 35 hours per week, with the flexibility to consider part-time arrangements according to scheduling needs for the upcoming school year (August 5, 2026, to May 19, 2027). You’ll have the chance to impact both general education students and students with multiple disabilities. Expect an engaging, itinerant caseload, with school assignments grouped by geography to reduce travel time.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid, active DOE Teacher Certification
- Proficiency in Braille and use of Assistive Technology (knowledge of the Federal Quota program is a plus)
- Experience serving K-12 populations, ideally in both general education and special education settings
- Comfortable participating in IEP meetings and skilled in documentation on digital platforms (experience with TN Pulse is preferred)
- Ability to adapt instruction to varying age groups and learning needs
- Must complete fingerprinting and meet time-sensitive credentialing requirements
Responsibilities Include:
- Deliver tailored academic instruction and support to students with visual impairments across elementary, middle, and high school environments
- Travel between assigned schools to serve an itinerant caseload evenly split across grade levels
- Collaborate with educational teams to develop, implement, and monitor IEPs using TN Pulse and facilitate access to Chromebooks and assistive technologies
- Provide ongoing training and support to staff and families regarding visual impairment accommodations and technologies
- Maintain thorough, accurate records in compliance with district and state guidelines
