This full-time contract opportunity seeks two passionate educators with expertise in teaching students with visual impairments. Flexible scheduling may be considered for outstanding part-time applicants.
You’ll thrive in a collaborative and well-supported setting, utilizing your Braille knowledge, assistive technology expertise, and instructional best practices to boost students’ academic success and independence. Caseloads are thoughtfully split across elementary, middle, and high school, ensuring continuity and the chance to build meaningful relationships with your students. While this is an itinerant position, geographic assignments keep travel efficient and manageable.
This role offers rewarding variety, including supporting students in both general education classrooms and specialized self-contained settings for those with additional disabilities. You’ll enjoy streamlined workflow with the TN Pulse IEP management platform, and you’ll be empowered to play an active, hands-on role in IEP development and meetings.
Key Qualifications:
- Current and active DOE certification
- Minimum of five years’ experience as a Virtual Teacher of the Visually Impaired for virtual roles
- Proficiency in Braille and assistive technology
- Preferred: Familiarity with Federal Quota program for assistive technology
- Willingness to travel between schools in a designated area
- Strong commitment to collaborative IEP planning and implementation
- Fingerprint clearance as required
What You’ll Do:
- Deliver direct instruction and consultation services for K–12+ students with visual impairments
- Support student access to curriculum and technology (including Chromebooks)
- Develop, monitor, and participate in IEPs for assigned students
- Travel to multiple school sites, with strategic caseload assignments to minimize travel time
