Make a meaningful impact supporting K-12 learners in the role of Teacher for the Visually Impaired! This itinerant contract opportunity offers the chance to work throughout the Chattanooga area, providing specialized instruction and supporting students who are blind or have low vision across elementary, middle, and high school levels. With two vacancies to fill, your expertise can help shape accessible, inclusive educational experiences where each student’s needs are championed. This is a full-time position at 35 hours per week, with some part-time flexibility considered.
Key qualifications and experience:
- Valid DOE certification required
- Proficiency in Braille and experience with assistive technology for visually impaired students
- Familiarity with accessing assistive technology through federal programs a plus
- Experience working with both general education students and those with multiple disabilities
- Strong collaboration skills for working with school teams and participating in IEP meetings
- Comfort with electronic IEP systems; this district utilizes the TN Pulse platform
- Willingness to travel between assigned schools (routes designed to minimize travel time)
- Must complete required fingerprinting for credentialing
Primary responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction and support to students K-12+ with visual impairments
- Consult with general and special education teachers to ensure student access to curriculum
- Assist with the procurement, setup, and training for assistive technologies
- Contribute actively in the development and implementation of IEPs
- Maintain up-to-date student records and progress reports
- Offer guidance and strategies to families and fellow professionals
