Teacher for the Visually Impaired | Soddy Daisy, Tennessee
Step into a rewarding, full-time contract opportunity supporting students across K-12+ by lending your expertise as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired. Beginning August 5, 2026 and continuing through May 19, 2027, you’ll work closely with students in both general and specialized education settings, traveling between schools within the Chattanooga area. Your schedule and caseload—divided among elementary, middle, and high school students—will be thoughtfully developed to minimize travel, and we are open to considering candidates interested in part-time schedules.
The ideal candidate brings experience with Braille instruction as well as proficiency in assistive technology for visually impaired students. Familiarity with accessing assistive tech through the Federal Quota program is a bonus. You’ll utilize the TN Pulse platform for IEP documentation and participate actively in IEP meetings, collaborating on strategies to maximize each student’s learning experience. Caseloads can include students in general classrooms as well as those with multiple disabilities in specialized learning environments.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Valid, active DOE certification required
- Previous experience as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired across K-12 settings
- Strong Braille knowledge and assistive technology skills; understanding of Federal Quota program a plus
- Experience with IEP processes and confidence using digital IEP platforms (preferably TN Pulse)
- Able to travel between school sites; reliable transportation needed
- Successful completion of fingerprinting/credentialing requirements
Daily Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and consultative services to visually impaired students
- Adapt curriculum and learning materials for accessibility
- Collaborate with general and special education professionals, as well as families
- Support students’ use of Chromebooks with accessibility features
