Support students in their educational journey by using your expertise as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired. This full-time contract role (35 hours per week, with possible part-time consideration) offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic K-12 environment near the Chattanooga area. You'll make a meaningful impact as you travel between various schools, focusing on an itinerant caseload split among elementary, middle, and high school students. Assignments are structured to minimize travel time, and you’ll contribute directly to student success in both general education settings and special classrooms.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and support to students with visual impairments across K-12+ age groups.
- Adapt educational materials using Braille and various assistive technology tools, including Chromebooks.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and families to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) using the TN Pulse platform.
- Participate in IEP meetings for assigned students and ensure compliance with state and federal guidelines.
- Travel between assigned schools with geographically planned schedules to optimize your day.
- Support students in both general education classrooms and specialized settings for multiple disabilities.
Qualifications:
- Valid, active teaching certification from the Department of Education (DOE).
- Experience and proficiency in Braille instruction and the use of assistive technology (knowledge of the Federal Quota program is a plus).
- Ability to work effectively across a variety of educational settings and with diverse student needs.
- Must complete district fingerprinting requirements.
- Experience working in school district environments is highly valued.
