This full-time contract opportunity offers the chance to work alongside dedicated professionals as you travel between assigned schools (with schedules organized to minimize travel time) for the 2026-2027 academic year, starting August 5th and concluding May 19th.
As a specialist for visually impaired students, you’ll engage with children and young adults in both general education classrooms and specialized settings for those with multiple disabilities. Your expertise will help open doors to learning and personal growth using a range of assistive technology and Braille resources.
What You’ll Need to Succeed:
- Valid and active DOE teaching certification
- Experience as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Proficiency in Braille and navigating assistive technology
- Familiarity with the Federal Quota program or willingness to learn (strong plus)
- Comfortable working with diverse learners, from elementary through high school
- Knowledge of IEP development processes, preferably via the TN Pulse platform
- Ability to adapt to a dynamic, itinerant role with multiple school assignments
- Willingness to complete any credentialing requirements, including fingerprinting
Your Role and Responsibilities:
- Provide direct support to students with visual impairments across multiple sites
- Collaborate actively in IEP meetings and contribute to individualized learning plans
- Equip students with tools (including Chromebooks and Braille materials) for academic success
- Work closely with school staff to foster inclusive and adaptive learning environments
- Maintain timely records in the district’s special education platforms
