You'll work with a diverse caseload of students—from those in general education classrooms to others with multiple disabilities who receive specialized instruction. The district values teachers who are fluent in Braille, equipped to use assistive technology (and, ideally, knowledgeable about the Federal Quota program), and ready to make a difference in both academic and functional skills development.
What we’re seeking:
- Valid DOE certification for teaching visually impaired students
- Prior experience as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) serving K-12 students
- Proficiency with Braille literacy and assistive technology for the visually impaired
- Familiarity with the TN Pulse platform for managing IEPs
- Comfortable collaborating in IEP meetings and adapting instruction across educational settings
- Ability to travel between assigned schools; schedule and locations determined to protect your time
- Commitment to completing fingerprinting and all credentialing quickly
Your role will include:
- Supporting students across elementary, middle, and high school settings
- Dividing your caseload equitably and effectively
- Equipping students using Chromebooks with accessible content
- Working with interdisciplinary teams for holistic support
- Documenting and managing student progress using school platforms
