Teacher of the Visually Impaired in Tavares, FL

Make a meaningful impact supporting students with visual impairments in a dynamic school environment. This is a full-time contract opportunity for a certified Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) with O&M (Orientation and Mobility) Certification. The assignment covers the upcoming school year, working with a district-wide caseload of K-12 students. Enjoy flexibility with a hybrid role—provide essential on-site direct services a few days each week, and collaborate virtually for consultative work on remaining days.
Key Qualifications:
- Active FL Professional certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) Certification required
- Testing/screening experience working with students is important
- School-based background strongly preferred but not mandatory
- Comfortable managing an itinerant caseload, traveling between multiple sites
- Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills
- Willingness to complete time-sensitive district credentialing and onboarding
Role Responsibilities:
- Deliver both direct and indirect services to K-12 students (approximately 15-20 students)
- Provide instruction, adaptations, and consultative support based on individual student needs
- Conduct student screenings and participate in assessments for appropriate educational planning
- Travel to 2-3 different schools per day within the district (district office as your home base)
- Develop schedules in cooperation with district staff to optimize routes and balance workloads
- Engage in monthly consultative services as needed, supporting staff and families
- Maintain accurate documentation of services and collaborate with educational teams
